Gold and silver fireworks explode in the sky, casting flashes on the Entrudo Parade as it makes it way down Arraiais Road in Iago on Paquin. Acrobats, jugglers, fire-dancers, and many other entertainers, costumed in sequins and satin, frolic and cavort for the assembled crowds. The audience cheers, whelps, and tosses confetti in all shapes and colors, completely oblivious to the darkness that lies just behind them.

In a darkened alley, a drunken couple has wondered away from the festivities for a bit of stolen romance. He twirls her around, lifting her slightly off the ground and then bringing her in for kiss. She pushes him away and jumps out of his arms. Running a few steps away, she bends at the waist and ungracefully empties her stomach. He tries to suppress a chuckled when a man steps from the shadows behind him. The lustful man doesn't register the new presence until after the wire garrote is cutting into the flesh of his neck. He tries to scream, but his companion it too preoccupied with vomiting to notice his feeble attempts. Within moments, he is dead and tossed aside. Wiping her mouth, the woman rights herself and turns back to where she expects her lover to be. She screams and tries to run, but the murderer catches her with one arm, thrusting a dagger in her side with the other. Before she falls, he has stabbed her seven more times.

Gunfire followed immediately by screaming erupts from the parade. Chaos ensues as people run in every direction. The murderer steps through a side door in the alley.

Welcome to Harlequins and Hellfire! You were simply trying to enjoy the Entrudo Parade on Iago, Paquin when all hell broke loose! Some sort of riot has erupted and you've taken refuge in a local bar, which the shopkeeper has seen fit to lock down, complete with sliding blast doors. Outside Paquin's police force have announced that martial law in effect and everyone should stay inside. Well, you're not going anywhere, but at least you can have drink. As you scan the room you spot a couple familiar faces. "Wonderful, just wonderful," you think to yourself, "I'm stuck here with them!"

Harlequins and Hellfire! is a special episode of  a live action role-playing game (LARP), Ji Dian Station, based on Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity. This game takes place on Paquin, as described in the Serenity role-playing game. Ji Dian Station uses a homegrown system designed to get through the challenges as quickly as possible so we can get to the fun of role-playing. Guests will be playing fleshed out characters with histories, goals, and even secrets.
